Insurance

What is insurance?

Insurance is a way to manage risk. Risk is the chance that something unexpected will happen. When you buy insurance, you are paying for peace of mind – knowing that if an unexpected event happens, your expenses will be covered or reimbursed.

What kinds of things can I insure?

The most common kinds of insurance are home, health, auto, and life. But there are also many other types of insurances available today including renters’, boat, travel, umbrella, disability among others.

How does it work?

When you sign up for an insurance policy, you pay an agreed-upon premium every month/year depending on the policy term.

The money goes into a pool whereby all insureds contribute to this pool. This pool of money is then used to pay for any claims that come up.

If you need to make a claim, the insurance company will give you money or cover your expenses depending on what type of policy you have. Depending on the policy terms, they might also ask you to pay some money back (this is called a deductible).
